What is Mindfulness
I used to think a lot about what Mindfulness was when I created this blog. I would envision some hippie expert sitting in a lotus position talking to people. They were super spiritual people. I even went as far as thinking these people probably only shop at the health food store and are environmentally clean. That’s not me and Rest assured: That’s Not It!
I realized as I created this space anyone has the power to start practicing Mindfulness, it doesn’t have to be an extravagant life change. You don’t even have to shop at the health food store to obtain this lifestyle (lol). The point is; You are becoming aware of areas in your life you no longer resonate with and you’re wanting to better them.
Mindfulness is when a person acts, thinks, and responds with intention. It may sound daunting at first but it is a practice. When your mindset shifts and you are able to utilize good habits you have formed and are able to choose, react, speak, have emotions, and so much more, in a healthier way.
What do I mean? That it can be easy when we have developed habits that are not healthy. Coping skills that have not formed, or relaying on substances to help “calm us down”. Traumas from abusive parents and past relationships that have formed our thought and physical patterns. Even our stress response if we are put in situations that remind of us an event that made us feel in danger, not safe, or like we endures extreme stress/trauma. But when we are able to unpack these areas of our lives, in a safe environment we can begin to become aware and create positive changes.

Using Mindfulness
At first it seems overwhelming when we start to break down our patterns, thoughts, actions, etc. But when we are able to; the use of mindfulness comes in handy. Life is bumpy and we will be put to the test at some point. It is during those times when you must remember all the positive ground work you have learned to react differently.
No one is perfect and this takes awhile. It will be bumpy at first. Your friends, family, and loves ones may not be on board with it either, especially if a lot of struggles are coming from them, themselves. But each time you go through an experience, or as I say cycle, you will learn. You will grow and become better each time until eventually the cycle is broken, and you are undisturbed by it.
Awareness
Awareness is the beginning to Mindfulness! You can’t begin if you aren’t aware! Once you realize what is happening it won’t be a fun experience. (Sorry not sorry) But it’s just the beginning! Nothing typically is fun in the beginning anyways unless it’s camping trips, amusement parks, and actual fun activities, lol.
Let me tell you, when I first realized I had some serious crap going on was when I was running late for work, shuffling both my kids in the car. (They were both crying to top things off). I was running down my stairs in the crispy early winter morning when I stopped dead on the last step and had a small voice inside of me telling me all the stuff I couldn’t bring myself to see. It was then that I felt my world shatter and slip apart. I Was Devastated. It wasn’t until after that for a few months I seeming became more aware and lost more control that brought me to step up for my children, my family, and my life.
Now that’s My Story, which will be riddled through this blog. But it doesn’t have to be yours. I don’t want it to be yours either. It wasn’t fun doing that, especially with children. But I can say that if I didn’t go through that I wouldn’t be here creating this blog for you today…. And also why I feel called to help individuals create better practices in their lives.
Intention
When you are aware you can begin to work on your intentions. Your intention could be as simple or extravagant as you want. The point is; It’s Yours. With a little help from me, of course, I will discuss topics that help make you stew a little, want to try new things, and hopefully will get you to explore my blog more!
I created the Practices for Mindfulness Tab as a continuation of the topics I discuss here to help you solidify your Intentions. How can you create better habits if you aren’t practicing it?
