What the heck is Intentional Living? And most importantly “Why should I want to live my life intentionally?”
These two questions are something I have asked myself many times. But consider asking yourself these questions before those:
- Am I struggling with my current routines at home and work?
- Do I feel overwhelmed, have anxieties, and feel down right burned out?
- Am I feeling all over the place, disorganized, and don’t know where to begin?
- Are you starting to have negative thoughts about yourself because you simply feel like your not enough?
- Are you looking for a change in your life but don’t know what that is yet?
If you answered Yes to any of those questions then it’s time for some change! As you consider these questions you might be considering the options in your head of what you can do to make it better. But if you feel downright lost, then I’m here to say it’s okay.
Intentional living begins by you recognizing your current ways just aren’t cutting it! Your habits aren’t getting any better and you’re looking for something new. Intentional living is going to help you take back control of your life, and I mean for the long run, none of this crash and burn fad stuff.
It’s not just a “fad”, it’s a way of life.
As women I feel as though we get so much more thrown at us. Be a mom! Have the perfect house! Exercise and put your make up on! Have all the things, and do all the things. It’s downright exhausting. Until You stop and ask yourself what really is the point of this all? We fall prey to those society standards that we feel we can never measure up to and it makes us feel worse! Until we start focusing on what truly matters…
Intentional Living Puts Us in Control
We can begin to feel in charge of our lives again through intentional living. It makes us evaluate what systems we have in our lives, or lack of. (That was me so it’s okay) We then begin to build a foundation of what works for us in our personal, family, and home routines. Then the magic happens. After sorting and tossing out old ways of thinking, taking on new habits, and sticking with them, it emerges.
What is It? It is this new way of life you’ve created without totally realizing it! Those subtle habit changes and processes you started to put in place and commit to finally started working. Slowly but surely with each passing day you notice positive differences of what your old ways were versus the new ways.
It feels revolutionary but it’s not. I’m not breaking the wheel and forging a new one here. I’m just simply giving you guys a different take on life. And if you feel empowered to create different processes and systems in your life then great!
It Gives Us back Lost Time
I can tell you I used to fly by the seat of my pants. It sucked. And with three children there’s no flying. If you don’t have kids I’ll tell you bluntly; You Can’t Rush Kids! They turn just as angry as you with worse meltdowns. Which is why I started to evaluate my life and seeing what works for me versus what didn’t. Needless to say I’ve revamped a lot of my life to fit around my kids. However I also saw what didn’t work in my life anymore that I was wasting time on.
Trying out new habits can be scary but also a game changer. When I started to really focus on what was going on in my routines I realized it wasn’t working no matter how hard I tried the results were the same, the mornings were wild. I felt depleted, overwhelmed, and anxious. So I focused and committed, in the end I realized I was just wasting time on old habits and routines that weren’t serving me.
The point is don’t be afraid to try something new especially if you’re at the point of wanting to try anything and everything to get your life under control. What I will say is, don’t expect to get back your old life when you start new habits, what will emerge is you pivoting in your life to adjust to the changes that have occurred.
It is Healthy
When You start to ask questions about things you find out answers. They may be good, or bad as we all know. As a Registered Nurse I have read a lot about the mental and physical body being connected. If both have anomalies they will manifest outward into the environment. Not only when you decide to live intentionally are you deciding for your home to be peaceful and tidy but also your spiritual mind.
Intentional living reduces stress! By creating a better balance between you and your home life you will have more time to check in with yourself. You won’t be rushing all the time scrambling.
Intentional living improves the mood! By focusing on routines that work you’re not feeling so stressed everyday nor burned out. You might even have some extra time on your hands to fill your cup up and recharge yourself.
Intentional Living Makes Us Evaluate Ourselves
And when I mean evaluate I’m not just talking about our home lives and family. I’m also talking about what we are choosing for ourselves. Intentional living makes us ask questions of what you might see on food labels, in products, and you might start to wonder what exactly you’re putting on your body. Maybe you even start to consider how you can be more intentional with your resources such as money.
What ever you’re considering intentional living makes us evaluate ourselves. It makes us consider if what we are doing currently is working, and where we could use change. I can only hope that these words find you, wherever you are, and you feel just as empowered as I do to take charge of your life with more intentions!
